LEARN
Provide 2 hours of professional development to all educators on digital citizenship. PD may be conducted in person (by school staff) or online, using Common Sense Education resources.
- All teachers in the district have received some form of training this summer on digital instruction in the classroom through the "Macsimizing your Mac" workshops or the deeper learning workshops provided by the Instructional Technology Specialists. (Already completed by all teachers in order to receive Macbooks)
- However, all teachers should view the webinar, All-New Digital Citizenship Curriculum. It takes about 50 minutes to view the webinar once you eliminate initial introductions and Q&A at the end of the webinar. (Burges HS will accomplish this in their PLC time with Ms. Caley Morales)
DO
☐ Student Instruction
Teachers, counselors, and librarians will deliver instruction to students using the NEW Common Sense Education curriculum materials.
The Common Sense requirement is that all students on at least three grade levels will receive three digital citizenship lessons using Common Sense Curriculum.
Students in grades 6 – 12 will be taught at least 4 digital citizenship lessons by core curriculum teachers.
Teachers will have to fill out a MS Forms document as proof after teaching the digital citizenship curriculum to their students.
☐ Family Engagement
Schools will complete three of the following activities to meet this requirement.

- Share articles and parenting advice from Common Sense Media. These articles could be shared on your school website. (One article has been posted on the website.)
- Host at least one in-person event for families and/or parents (with ready-made slides). At the elementary level, this could be done during a monthly PTO meeting or Parent Night.
- Other, e.g., Assign a Family Activity for homework. Here is a sample. This is a second-grade family activity for the lesson “We the Digital Citizens.” Family activities are available for all lessons from Common Sense Education.
